BIOGRAPHY
A Dallas childhood, a football career that ended early, ten years of club stages, and a film career that started at 33 and has not stopped.
Dallas and the road out
He was adopted and grew up in Dallas in a working-class house. His father was a fireman who also ran a signmaking business, and the household valued work that could be touched. School took him north: he graduated from Gobles High School in Gobles, Michigan, in 1982.
At Western Michigan University he played defensive line on the football team until a knee injury ended the playing career. What followed was a list of jobs he still recites with enjoyment: the kill floor of a slaughterhouse, forklifts for Pepsi-Cola, a gas station, an auto shop, a convenience store, a golf course, phone collections. The one he liked most was Medieval Times in Dallas, riding Andalusian stallions. "It's just the best job ever," he told AVN.
Stage, then camera
The performing started earlier than the films. In high school he read Anne Frank in a one-act class and was hooked. At 16 he played Sancho in a college production of Man of La Mancha, then Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar. From 1987 to 1997 he danced in clubs as a male stripper, ten years of stages that taught him how to hold a room.
He entered adult film in 1997, at about 33. For years he worked without an agent, which he has described as unusual for a man in the business. That changed in November 2023, when Coxxx Models announced an exclusive representation deal.
2001 and the feature years
January 2001 brought two AVN awards on one night: Male Performer of the Year and Best Actor (Film) for Adrenaline. He started directing the same year. Three more Best Actor (Video) wins followed, for Space Nuts in 2004, Pirates in 2006 and Sex Pix in 2007, and a second Male Performer of the Year in 2008.
Pirates gave him his best-known role, Captain Edward Reynolds, and Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge brought a Hot d'Or in Paris in 2009. He cut his long hair for a Star Trek parody and has said the change reset his casting: pilots, cops, detectives and attorneys instead of the bad guy with long hair. In 2010 he played the Riddler in Batman XXX: A Porn Parody, which brought him an AVN Best Supporting Actor award the following January. CNBC put him on its 2011 list of the twelve most popular stars in porn, the only man named.
Hall of fame and after
XRCO inducted him in 2010. AVN followed on January 8, 2011, on the same night he collected a third Male Performer of the Year trophy. IAFD records eight director credits between 2001 and 2011. TSA: Your Ass Is in Our Hands, released by Hustler Video in April 2011, is the film usually named as his directing debut.
The other work ran alongside: hosting the Consumer Choice Awards with Jessica Drake in 2003, taking over Spice Hotel on Spice Live in 2005, a short professional wrestling detour in 2007, the X Run 5K in Miami in 2014, and a managing partnership at All Pleasure Network from December 2016. He also does stand-up and plays guitar, piano, drums and cornet.
The campaign
On June 27, 2023 he announced a Republican campaign for Nevada's 1st congressional district, saying he wanted to be the first member of Congress who is an active adult performer. He lost the primary on June 11, 2024 with 950 votes, 3.2 percent, fifth of five candidates. AVN nominated the campaign for Mainstream Venture of the Year in January 2025.
He married Katie Morgan in 2017; the two gave a joint interview to Hustler in 2020 and live in Las Vegas.
Birthplace is not printed: sources give Dallas, Ames, Carrollton and Kalamazoo. The birth year is 1964; Wikidata also carries 1969.
